NASA is not involved in the SETI project at all. All of the funding is private.

It may be a futile effort to search. But there are opportunities to gather useful information, improve existing technologies, derive new concepts, along with the opportunity for other discoveries that are made in the process of searching. Science is the search for truth and not just a list of data on a page.

I think as long as NASA is out there, they should at least keep their eyes open and look around. It would be a shame to miss out on that cool technology the ET's have.
And you just never know where or when those extraterrestials might show up. I think it is much more likely the ET's will find US long before we find them. We really are so primitive at this point in our evolution that it is going to be a very very long time before we have the technology to get where we need to go to find other life out there.

Of course they should. If for one second you think we are the only intelligent life out there you are nuts. One day we will find someone or something else and then we won't be having these talks anymore. Please don't bring up mouths to feed when we pay our pro sports players, actors and many others billions of dollars to do entertainment for us. The gov shouldn't take responsibility for hungry mouths when one tenth of one percent of the rich population could feed every hungry person in the entire world. That is a cop out and they need to blame someone (government) while they get even richer.

Yes I believe that we should be searching because who knows they might be using better technology or are more advanced than we are, and might be able to help us find cure for fatal diseases of help us find a solution for air pollution and help us dispose of nuclear waste, we have to look on the brighter side of this discovery or if not they might just be stronger than us and immortal and turn us into slaves which is my biggest fear.

I dont think we would search the e.t very soon. But some other concepts are going to be more clearer or we may even develop new concepts. So I think we should be going on with the searching part.

I think we should at least match $1 for $1 everything spent on religion.

We should not be searching, as there are too many people here that are searching for their next meal or a warm place to sleep.

My opinon, NO. What if we find something and it's not good.
What if we find anything. What do we do then?
