It's REALLY cold outside, middle of the night, and my throt hurts.
It hurts when I swallow my own spit, and it hurts to rince my mouth out when I brush my teeth. Any home remedies? I just ate some maderine orange - maybe the vitamine C will help... But it stings more!!! ;_;

I've heard of drinking hot tea with honey in it...

The things that work the best for me when this happens is to gargle with warm water with a spoonful of salt mixed into it. I will do this several times a day. Drink hot tea with honey and lemon added. The third thing that will help is to wrap up your throat with a wet towel that you have warmed up in the microwave.

Have you had your tonsils removed? They may be infected and could be causing the problem. If some of the home remedies people are suggesting on here do not help, you may want to make an appointment with a doctor and have a check-up. Hope some of these suggestions help, and you are soon feeling better.

This is an old nurses' remedy that is very effective...Combine equal parts warm salt water, hydrogen peroxide, and and anti-bacterial mouthwash. Gargle with that at least every 2-4 hours. It breaks down the drainage clinging to the back of the throat so it can heal quicker and destroys many bacteria that might be causing the problem.

Now this is going to sound really strange Mags, but anal sex will cure this... or at least make you forget about your throat hurting... I am sure that HB will assist you with the cure. A hot tottie would do you some good too, a bit of whiskey, a lemon and some hot tea I like orange spice.

You need to reduce the swelling of your tonsils, as that is what the problem is. Drink plenty of hot tea and eat the good ole chicken soup, as it will help lubricate your throat. Also, drink plenty of fluids during the day to stay hydrated, as having a cold or flu results in dehydratioin as the body sweats to fight off the infection.

put milk(3%) in a small cooking pot and bring to a light boil, then stir in some honey and maple syrup (pure maple, not syntetic!), let sit to cool down just a little and serve. it will taste great and sooth your throat + it (honey and syrup) will coat your throat long enough for you to fall asleep.

p.s. sleeping pills such as nytol will keep you in a deep sleep so you don't wake up in the middle of the night if thats the case, but seeing as they are hard to swallow with a sore throat, crush up 1 or 2 pills and mix them into the milk., but for a natural alternative place a tea bag (chamomile) in the milk and let it simmer before you mix in the honey and syrup.

I feel the same way!

Try some tea with honey, maybe that will help. And take a pain reliever (like Advil or Tylenol) if you have some.

Hope you feel better in the morning!

Make a tea with half water and half apple cider vinegar, then add a tablespoon of honey and stir. Gargle this and swallow.

You can gargle some warm salt water or some vineger. You need to kill the bacteria that is starting to grow. Hope you start feeling better!
