I would first suggest making a demo CD. Even better is a demo DVD of your band playing live. Take it to bars/clubs that you want to play at...try to give it to the owner if possible. Get to know the owners. Get a myspace page and/or pages for other sites for bands/musicians. See if you can open for bands at places you like. Have your friends help by spreading the word to places and other friends. Good luck.

The hardest thing for a young band to do is get on stage. The guy who said practice, practice, practice is right. When you DO get your shot, you want to come correct. The first thing you should do is offer to open for another band at a club for free. This gets you stage experience, and you can start to build a following. Do this for a while, then you can list these clubs as part of your resume when you visit clubs for paying gigs.

If you are all over 21 years old I would bring your guitars and head to all of the Open Mic Nights at local bars. They supply the drums and mic. This will get the bars to hear you and from that they might want to book you. It is hard to get gigs without a demo cd...so this is the best way.

Find other local bands and try to get on one of their shows. If you're good, the first show should be the hardest to get. After that you'll be asked to play.

Play your music wherever there is a crowd. You could start playing in a park and then advance to bars and restaurants. Make a demo tape and give it to anyone who will listen to it.
