I'm 18 years old and my labia minora are longer than normal. I've been very embarressed about it my entire life, and I'm considering getting labiaplasty to aleviate the length. My question is, how common is this "condition", and is it even worth getting cosmetic surgery over?

I don't know how common it is. TV's Dr. 90210, Dr. Rey, has a website with info and pictures. I'm not going to link it here because I don't want to get in trouble for linking to "p o r n".

Hi. You know there is a very wide variation in what is considered "normal" when it comes to the human body! I am a student midwife and long time doula and can tell you that many women have more pronounced labia than some others. In some cases I think it is a genetic/ethnic difference. Some women's inner labia protrude outside of the outer labia and this is completely normal. Did you know that in the developing baby the sex organs start off the same in boys as girls? It is the same tissue that develops into the penis in boys and the clitoris and labia in girls. Bearing this is mind, you may find that removing part of this tissue affects your sensation during sex. It is worth considering the possible negative effects of surgery. It is quite a drastic step to be considering but if you are really troubled by it then you must make that decision for yourself. Remember, you are not alone. There are a lot of women with the same physical characteristic who don't even consider it unusual. It's all in your perspective! I hope that helps!

I'm not sure of how common it is, but remember everyone is different and labias come in all different shapes and sizes. Any man that loves you is going to love you down there too, no matter what it looks like. I think a labiaplasty is a waste of money. I think they gal that was on that doctor 90210 show that was mentioned by a previous poster had one done because of the way she looked in a bathing suit or something. If you don't have any issues like that and just don't like the way you look naked... well, time for some self love! Any type of surgery could have potential complications- are you willing to risk it for something that's purely cosmetic? (that 99% of the people you meet will never see?)

This is not a condition, this is not a disease. How long do you think normal is? Labia can be all different lengths. Think about you are considering, do you know how painful surgery is going to be? Is it really worth it? I think this is a very silly reason to go through so much pain.

Your condition can be easily and permanently fixed with plastic surgery. I recommend you check out http://www.surgeryabroadguide.com for extensive information on the procedure and prices.

i have the problem with length too, but honostly unless you plan to live in a nudist coloney i don't think its worth it. if i were you i would waste my money on something that would make me feel better about my self and that i could show off to everyone. But if you are really uncomfortable with it do it. just note most men will not care. Good Luck :-)

It's pretty common. I have a big gross labia of my own.

this is fairly common and the surgery is very easy. if it bothers you, go ahead and do it. be sure you have a doc who has done them before, you want it to look pretty when all is done

How do you know it's "too long?" I mean, unless it's dragging the ground I wouldn't waste the money or risk the surgery.
