In the play, The Tragedy of Oedipus, Oedipus finally realizes that his fate was pre-determined by the gods. in your opinion is our destiny pre-determined or do we have some control or even total control over our own lices. Take a spostion either way and support your answer by citing evidence from the text or by using your own personal experiences.

This is my essay assignment. I took the position that fate is controlled by ones self, and may not be pre-determined if you agree, can you please give me some of you ideas, I'm running short on what to write about
Thanks!

Once upon a time there was a blind monk and he had herd of a great Master in the Himalayas. It was said that this great Master had the knowledge of the meaning of life. The blind monk had decided to make the trek by himself to this Master to learn from him and know the meaning of life. The monk traveled the long path to the Master and came across many forks and crossroads in the path that were meant to confuse him. Some of the wrong paths at the crossroads tempted him with new sight; others tempted him with a faster means to get to the master, while others offered wealth beyond his dreams. But the Monk stayed focused and made the choice to stay the course. However, by staying on the right path he was able to experience nature by touching the leaves of plants and the peddles of flowers. He drew in his lungs and a smile came to his face, as he smelled all the life that was on his path.

The moment had came and he had found the great master and the blind monk approached the Master.

"Master I have came from far away to seek your knowledge of the meaning of life".

The Master can see that the Monk had traveled many miles and did the travel without sight but first there are some things the Master must know.

"Are you happy"?
"Yes Master".
"Are you loved"?
"Yes Master".
"Are you hungry"?
"No Master".
"Do you try to always make the right choices in life when you come to the cross roads in your path"?
"Yes Master".
"Are you right with your God"?
"Why of course Master".
"Then go back from where you came as you do not need me".

The Master then walks’ away leaving the blind monk in complete disbelief that the master had forsaken him. The blind monk runs after the Master to stop him and speaks:

“Master why have you forsaken me? I stayed the course to be here to learn from you”?

The Master gently places his hands on the shoulder of the blind monk and says to him:

“My son, my son, you do not need me as you already know your path and you can already see”. THE END

In my humble opinion our lives are just like the monks. We will always come across forks and crossroads in our paths and it up to us to make the choice as to which fork we take. No one makes us take the wrong or right path it is entirely up to us. I do not buy this; the Devil made me do it crap any more than I by that someone did to you and that is why you are the way you are. We are the way we are because we choose the path to be that way.

Fate is whatever you want it to be. It's a good excuse to have. This is my cynical opinion. Good luck on your essay.

Omg im in 6th grade and my dad made me study it....i sorta understood it so......say how Oedipus exchange into blind in a million way, and the prophet exchange into bodily blind. additionally, say how they chosen to be blind to the actuality or mild or watever. I thoroughly understand, it yet i used to be hoping this helped. Its no longer common to study college literature whilst ur reading poems like mary had somewhat lamb at college..
