Weight Of 500 Sheets Of Paper

The reference standard for "20 lb" plain bond paper is a ream (500 sheets) of 17" x 22" paper which weighs 20 pounds. Therefore, a ream of "20 lb" plain bond for your copier or personal printer will weigh 5 pounds (20 pounds ÷ 4 [the number of 8½ x 11 reams cut from the reference standard] = 5). By extension, that case of ten reams you sent Wilber Milquetoast down to carry up from the stock room weighs 50 pounds. Better make sure his disability insurance is paid up. LOL

The metric folks have their own paper sizes and I won't go into that. And other types of paper have different reference sizes which weigh different amounts. Check the links below; and be forewarned, it can be pretty confusing to the layman so take your time reading.

It depends on the weight of each sheet of paper.

Paper comes in many weights. One ream of paper will weigh more than another depending on the individual thickness of each sheet.

For example, a sheet of spiral notebook paper weighs less than paper you use in a copier.
