I heard that Denver is polluted. Is that true? What is a place in Colorado that is affordable and not heavily polluted?

Denver has air pollution problems, but I wouldn't say it's more polluted than most big cities. It's probably not worse than Dallas, Chicago, etc.

Denver is Colorado's only big city. In terms of small cities, you have three choices:

* Fort Collins
* Colorado Springs
* Grand Junction

Fort Collins is a college town, a bit like Boulder, but less wealthy and probably less liberal. You'll find ample outdoors activities there and reasonably priced homes. Education rates are very high in Fort Collins and there's plenty of high tech work.

Colorado Springs is the Bible Belt of Colorado. It's home to the Air Force Academy and various military contractors. It's also home of Cheyenne Mountain, a cold war era nuclear command and control station, which is closing. Colorado Springs is pretty affordable but not the cheapest place in the world.

On the Western Slope, you'll find Grand Junction. It's extremely affordable, but it's also been left out of the economic success of Eastern Colorado, and you may find it harder to get a job, especially in high technology. Western Colorado is a desert, but its beauty is breathtaking during the winter.

Having said all that ... unless you have specific sensitives to smog, I don't think Denver's pollution should be an issue for you.

I heard that Pueblo is great. Some people I know moved there and built a home. Most of colorado is expensive but it is still best to stay close to cities. If you get to isolated it is harder to get jobs and some areas get buried in snow.

Also many people like Ft. Collins and it is not too far from Denver. It made the top 50 list of best places to live and I think it was in the top 15, quite an achievement. I know you can buy a regular home there for about $200,000 rents are a little high since lots of college kids live there.

Denver has polution lots of cars and lots of poeple burn firewood day after day. The smoke stays in the basin. But the outlying areas are fine. Keep in mind winters are long. And if you dont ski and are not an outdoor enthusiast and if you are older, it is not the best place to move.

Have you looked at New Mexico. It is wonderful, low cost living and warmer weather. Gets a little warm in lower areas but bearable. The mountain areas are high cost of living but places in the middle to southern of the state are nice. Check it out online.

Good Luck

There is no such thing as affordable and not polluted in Colorado. I no longer live there because it is too expensive. Denver isn't as polluted as it used to be but it is bad....

maybe on the western slope around Delta or Montrose you can find places that aren't polluted but then you cant afford to live there either...

your best bet is to forget Colorado..it is a nice expensive tourist place but beyond that for get it. I lived in Colorado for over 40 years...no more thank you...
