What are your system spec's? How much of our hard drive do you have:

Reasons A computer can be slow:
-To many real time applications (Virus scanner, Messenger, Firewall, Chatbox, Laptop services, weather bug, etc..)

This can cause your computer to use its RAM to run these applications in the background. Remove any unessary programs you do not need running in the background

-Less hard drive space. All computers despite how much RAM and how much CPU you have. If your computer uses more then 75% of your hard drive you should see a sluggish preformance one way or another. 50% is a warning that maybe you should get a bigger hard drive orget a secondary hard drive

Your computer is constantly writting on the hard drive if your hard drive is getting full then that could be a symptom of why your computer is slow.

-Invalid registries. Ever install trial version of something then you remove it then you install anotehr trial of some sort. When you are done and you use add/remove program it sometimes can leave behind registries issue that can slow down your computer

*To fix registries I would recomend http://ccleaner.com to fix up some issues you might have.

-Your computer is just storing alot of junk. Laptops hold temp things when you visit the net. When you run an application instead of saving it, it is still save in the Temp folder! It will run the application and once it is done it is still there!

* To fix this My Computer->Right Click C:/->Properties-> Disk clean up. It might take a while depending how long you cleaned it up

-Comuter files are unorganize. Defragment allows your computer to rewrite files so it can access them easier. When you delete a file from the recycle bin the comptuer writes it off as free space. When you put something new the computer will write that spot and if there is something on the next spot it will move to the next free space to write it

*My Computer->C:/->Properties->Tools->Defragment

-If you have Windows 2000, XP,you can increase your paging file size only if you are not using to much hard drive space virtual memory is a waiting line for your comptuer so anything you need to be processed without high priority will be written to the hard drive and wait there untill the RAM and CPU can get to it. You might notice a louder hard drive.

Right Click My Computer->Properties->Advance->Preformance and Settings-> virtual Memory-> Increase your paging file size to 600-800 depending on what slow is. 650-850 and increase your registry size to 64MB

Hope this helps your PC out somewhat.

Tools, Options, in IE and delete your cookies and temporary files. Warning if you are someone that likes to store your passwords, or don't use favorites and just use the history as you'll be a bit miffed about remembering the addresses and passwords.
You can also open your list of folders, right-click on the C:/ drive and choose Properties. Click the Disk Cleanup button and follow the prompts. You may also want to run the Disk De frag program. Caution: Do this when you are not going to be needing your computer for a while because if it's been a while, then it will take a while to finish up.

1. Be sure to run an anti-spyware application such as Adaware or any other one of your preference.
2. If that does not help, this step will require some moderate computer knowledge. Try going to 'Start', then 'Run', and type in 'msconfig'. Under the startup tab, you will be able to uncheck certain background applications from starting up when your computer is turned on. However, do not uncheck anything that you are not familiar with as it can cause problems.
3. If neither of the above help and you are desperate for some speed, than it may be time to do a system recovery and restoring everything to the original settings. In this case, you will need to backup your data first since your hard drive will be erased in the process.

- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory. I had fun with mine, then changed it to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
then cl Remove.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
-Are you in a large file? If so, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.

1.Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag

2.Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.

3.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart

3.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup

4.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)

All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

You might have some virus or spyware. I beleive AOL provides for free it antivirus and antispyware software. IF not just go to download.com and look for the most downloaded/popular stuff that people have gotten. They have lots of free software. Check it out. You might need to defragment your comp too.

Reboot your computer often.
Running for long periods of time will cause a decrease in performance.

RAM is the best way or you can try to do a anti-spyware sweep with a anti-virus sweep.
