Okay, there are many things that could be wrong and many things which can fix it.
I. Problem: You might have spyware
Solution: Download and run Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. It's best free one out there. Download it from: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Just run through the program and it will remove any spyware for free.
II. Problem: You might have a virus
Solution: Check if you have a virus by running Trend Micro's free online virus scan. Check by going to this site: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
If you have a virus, you will have to buy an antivirus. If you ask any professional IT, they'll recommend Trend Micro's antivirus; it not that expensive, either.
III. Problem: You might have too many programs running in the background
Solution: Remove Extra Features: 1) Goto the start menu and press "RUN". 2) Type "msconfig" in the space provided and press enter. A new window will appear. 3) Press the tab named "Startup". 4) You will see many programs with a check by them. Those checked programs start running when you turn on your computer. Look at the bottom right side of your screen, each icon you see symbolizes one open program that is unnecessarily running in the background. And if there are a lot of programs running you'll see an arrow pointing left which, if clicked, will show you all your programs running. Okay, back the the window: If you uncheck programs that you KNOW are unnecessarily to run all the time, you should uncheck them. Programs you should leave checked are things like you antivirus, iPod/iTunes software, or anything that you don't know what it is. 5) Press okay and reboot your system.
IV. Problem: Your computer's fancy taskbar and cool looking stuff takes up a lot of memory (Only do this step if you have Windows XP).
Solution: 1) Goto your desktop. 2) Right click it and select "Properties". A window will appear. 3) Goto the "Appearance" tab. 4) You will find the text: "Windows and buttons" with a drop down box below it. Click the box and select "Windows Classic style" 5) Press "OK".
By now, your computer and internet should be really, really fast. Enjoy.

- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory. I had fun with mine, then changed it to blank.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
ï³To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
ï³cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
ï³cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
ï³then cl Remove.
ï³This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
-Are you in a large file? If so, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.
1.Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
2.Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
3.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
3.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
4.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

Remove any old games or photos you are not using. Burn the photos or uplaod them somewhere else. Perhaps you need more memory.

Sounds like spyware blocking you up, and possibly your cache memory. Try www.adaware.com, computer clean up, and even disk defrag.
