I wanted to install winxp and used the original cd to boot. Changed my bios setting so it boots from cd first. however, it prompted me to press any key to boot from cd, and then it goes to my old windows again. What's going on there? The only way i can do now is to disable my hard drive in the bios so that it won't boot up again from my old windows.

thank you for your answer!

Usually you need to press the spacebar to force a boot from CD. Even though you have set your CD drive to try and boot first, and the disk in the CD drive is a boot disc the bios will not automatically boot the disc because there is already a valid Operating System installed.

Try pressing the space bar when prompted, and if that doesn't work make sure the disc is clean. If that doesn't work I would suggest trying to make a copy of your CD to verify that the data on the disc is still readable, then try using the disc you just burned.

Maybe your CD installer is not bootable at all thats why it detected your old OS. If you are positive it is bootable, try cleaning the CD. If you disable the harddrive, how will you be able to install WinXP on it.
