According to my college psychology class, it differs depending on your age, but the average rest period required for optimal functioning is 8 hours. If I remember correctly, studies have actually shown that people who get 8 hours of sleep on a regular basis live longer than those who sleep less OR MORE than this amount!

it really depends. I found that everyone is diffrent. I need at LEAST 9 hrs a day of sleep f or some reason. Some people I know only need 4-6 hours. and they function just fine during the day, I wish I could do that!

You know when you reached over enough sleep when you wake up even more tired, or wake up slow and not alert.

for a teenager a minimum of 7 hours is good but an excessive amount of over 12 can lead to something parents like to call lazyness. for an adult, a minimum of 5 is necessary as they are not growing and for babies... dont wake them up if they dont have to be woken!
