Just for peace of mind so that I'll know they would actually trip in case of an overload and not damage my generator.

You can get a GFI tester at Home Depot. This might work to pop a circuit breaker in a generator.

If you're concerned about overloading your generator, you probably bought one that's too small to begin with.

To purposely make your generator "pop" a circuit breaker seems self defeating.

If, per chance, the circuit breakers didn't work and you fried your generator just trying to test it, you would never have a chance to use it..???

That's like running into a tree to make sure the air bags work in your car.
