I took a practice SAT score and got about a 610 on math, 640 on writing, and 500 on critical reading. I'm planning to take the SATs in June of next year and I'm planning to get private tutoring. I'm planning to review my math score with a Barron's book, and writing with Barron's as well...but I'm going to GET HELP for critical reading because I never seem to do well on it. Do you think I can raise my math and writing score in the 700's and raise my critical reading to at least a 600??

Also, I'm planning to take it in October of 2007 as well. Can anybody give me some advice on how to do well? I have the practice SAT book already. Can anybody volunteer to help me? Thanks!!!

I took them last year once. I got a 680 English, 630 Math and 680 Writing. Nothing spectacular, but then again all I had was the practice book.

Just keep reading the questions and familiarize yourself with the format. In my case, I accidentally skipped a page in the math during the exam and had to go back, erasing my previous answers. Also, don't make the mistake of answering every question like I did.

First of all, your practice score is supposed to give you an idea of where you stand before studying so I wouldn't worry too much. You still have until June to study.
Second, Barron's is a great resource. I would definately use it. I bought the latest edition and basically did every single practice problem in the book. All the practice tests and everything and I got great scores:

critical reading: 690
math: 730
writing: 740

The vocabulary is simply memorizing. Also, it helps if you read a lot. I've been an avid reader since childhood so vocabulary wasn't really that tough for me.

If you need help, get in touch and I'll do whatever I can.

YES. Trust me when I say this, MOST People who take it the second time do way better. Take it from me...

First time I took the SAT, I got a 1670. =/

Second time I took it, no studying to do better at all, 1830ish. Much better

First Time I took the ACT - 26. It was above avg, but not enough for my scholarship.

Second time, again no studying to do better, I got a 30.

You just seem to do much better the second time around. And you seem to be well on your way since you plan on working on your problem areas. Expect to do that well at least, since not only are you taking it again, but studying hard to do better.

Good luck

your math score ought to apply some paintings, yet all in all its really no longer that undesirable of a score. its your math grade thats holding you down. in case you get carry of that grade as a lot at least of a 420, thatd make one of those vast distinction. best of success :)
