If I try, only once. The secret is the mind remembers words better when they are associated with objects. In my job of 6 years I met up to 15-20 a day and had to remember their names. I had a method of associating names with objects I could visualise Eg When introduced to a Dean, first repeat their name back, then think of an object that rhymes, for example Bean. but you must be able to picture the bean. You will remember Dean, but picture the bean. Guaranteed this will make remembering names a lot easier! it worked for me, Try it.

Depends on what kind of impact or impression a person makes on me when I meet them Some people I remember the names from that point on and others, I may have to see them 3 times before I remember.

Apparently, the human brain remembers names, colors, addresses, etc. after hearing it three times. For me, it takes around four times to remember it for a long period of time.
