Rip had the mask since the middle of the 2003-2004 season, He tried to ditch the mask at the start of the 2004-2005 season but he was quoted as being more comfortable wearing it since he has had a history of his nose being broken

It's either one of this two: 1. It has become a trade mark. 2. It is used as a precaution to avoid anymore untoward nose breakage in the future. And yes since he continues wearing it I think he have gotten very comfortable with the mask. Hope this helps.

Since the 2003-04 season, I believe. He wore it to protect his nose after it was broken twice. He continues to wear the mask because he's now used to it and now feels comfortable wearing it, and he also doesn't want to re-injure his nose.

It's been a few years... he kept on breaking his nose so he has to wear it.
