The question about why Shakespeare's plays are so popular-
1. The plays have relevance in modern times. Everyone can relate to love stories, tragedy, and drama. The classic love story of "Romeo and Juliet" is just a story about two people finding true love, and who are willing to do whatever it takes to be together, but things never work out as people think they will, making it a tragic ending to a hopeful story.

2. The emotions portrayed are real to everyone. Jealousy (Hamlet), greed, lust for power, infidelity, are something that people understand.

3. Shakespeare was an incredible forward thinker, giving us many words that we use in the English language. (I can't really think of any examples, but my Literature teacher always said that.)

Hope that helps a bit.
