we have turned it on a few times with all the lights off and danced around and had fun, but it makes me feel really weird, dizzy, etc. He and his friend stayed up late last night listening to music and the strobe light was on. He told me this morning that his eyes were going crazy because it started to look like the furniture was moving and stuff. I just don't want to cause any harm by running the strobe light at the birthday party.

I looked up on the net "harmful effects of strobe lights" and "adverse effects of strobe lights" etc and only found that certain individuals are sensitive if there are more than say, 40 flashes per second or something.

Any advice or experience out there???

Strobe lights have been known to trigger seizures in patients with epilepsy, and I know that they are mesmerizing but you really shouldn't stand around and stare at them. They will cause you to suffer the symptoms you describe. Turn it off or just don't use it very often.

Strobe lights don't cause epilepsy, although they can trigger a seizure in someone who is epileptic.

You're not going to cause any harm by running it at his b-day party, unless perhaps one of his friends is epileptic.

In a person who has seizure disorder (diagnosed or not) it can cause a severe seizure. Should be safe, as long as you have someone there who can deal with something like that.
