So I have a roomate. We don't talk, we don't hang out and as you can tell, we have our differences.
But she's clean and pays all her bills on time.
Roomates, in the past, for me have always been people I can grab a drink with, share stories, occasionally have a meal and more importantly, communicate with.
Have I just had lots of live-in (platonic) girlfriends?
What has everyone else's experiences been like?

Its an extra bonus if a room mate can do all the right things like pay rent on time and be clean and considerate etc but if you can enjoy each others company, make friends and go out some places together that's great but most times I haven't wanted to get too close to anyone I share a house with. I like to be friendly but not live in each others pockets... I can be pretty private when I want to be and if I live too closely with someone I'm not in a relationship with that can become difficult... remember familiarity can breed contempt.

I used to work for housing at a university and I had a lot of people gripe about their roommates, so I learned I would rather turn a roommate into a friend than a friend into a roommate. If your roommate pays her bills, is clean and doesn't make you crazy, you've got a good one. The ones who did all that, and you could hang out with them, were great ones.
I had both in college, the ones where we did everything together to the ones that just paid their bills and we had our own friends.

My personal experience has been roommates with same gender, not a preference just happened that way.
But much like you, was friends that went out with or gathered with other mutual friends on outings.
Since you are obviously a male and she a female may be protecting herself from anything else occuring.....maybe has learned to guard from a past experience.
But if she does her share of work keeping the place nice, takes care of her area well, pays her bills without complications.....what is there to complain about?
Appreciate that you have a good roommate!
Let's just hope she has the same in you!

Usually you become close friends with a roommate because you live in such close quarters but not always and as long as the rent is paid on time it really doesn't matter, sometimes you just don't have a lot in common and the roommate will eventually move out anyway.....

My defintion of a roomate is annoying. This not because they have annoying habits or anything. But you will never have your room to your self your phone is always tied up and if you have company dont plan on them staying long.

Usually my roommates have been friends or relatives, people that I can trust.
If you have a roommate that is clean, timely, and trustworthy, count your lucky stars.
I have heard horrible stories that should never be repeated :)

they come in all sizes and shapes, if she pays her rent on time leave it be, unless of course you are looking for a lover.

its better to have a roommate who is just a roommate, then one who will make your life a living hell.
