I am a teacher at a rural, Christian school for at-risk kids. I don't get paid a dime becuase we can barely get the low tuition from their parents and barely have enough to pay the bills. I am trying to start some type of fundraising but am not an expert on that. There are only two of us teaching and my boss doesn't really know about fundraising either, obviously. She just knew these kids had a need and jumped in and started a school. Somehow she got me to teach for free and I am still here to start another year because I absolutely fell in love with these kids. They have such difficult lives but they are smart kids, they just never knew it. They have never had anyone expect them to work hard academically. I expect a lot from them and they know it. Most of them have parents that are either on Meth or are alcoholics. They have no money and I expect Christmas for them will be very tight. These kids have never asked me for anything and they know that I don't have any money. They all pitched in and bought me a birthday present and made beautiful cards. They range in age from 12 to 17. I love them so much and would love to be able to get each of them something nice for Christmas. My own daughter's Christmas will be tight too this year but she will get things from Grandma and Papaw. And a few things from me. My students will most likely get very little. So, if we raise any money at all before Christmas, that's what I would like to do with it. I'll try to get paid later. I've somehow made it this long, I can surely make it till after Christmas. These kids have worked so hard this year for me and I think they deserve something extra special. They have all turned their lives around so much since coming to our school and they are actually starting to think about going to college. Most of them were just trying to stay in school till they turned 16 and could legally drop out. The 12 year old got kicked out of alternative school. These kids are beginning to feel good about themselves and I want them to know just how proud I am of them. I am so proud! I want the very best for them. Anyway, I'm sorry to have wander off the subject, but that's what I want to do for others this year. I want my students to have something special from us. Something they won't forget and that will show them how very proud we are to be their teachers and how much faith we have in them. They were classic "underachievers" and now they have to make a 90% on their tests to move on to their next workbook. They have worked their tails off. Sometimes it has been like pulling teeth. We've had our ups and downs. But they have come together like a family. They are always saying they've "got each other's backs". Gotta love 'em! We have 7 students this year. It is a very poor, rural community in Missouri. What they had to look forward to before was probably either prison or welfare. Now they seem to have dreams and goals. Thanks for asking and thanks for listening.

I am a chairperson in the band boosters organization at my daughters high school. Just this morning I was thinking about how I need to get some kids together and take them to retirement homes, hospitals, etc. to sing Christmas carols to the senior citizens. Lots of them have no family left and are all alone. I think we should also try to have a food drive and collect toys for needy children. I am not rich, but there are other ways of helping others besides giving money. I sure wish that more people would make an effort and not be so greedy and concerned only with themselves. Take a look around folks - there are ALOT of people who need help around you!!! It doesn't take much to make someone smile or feel appreciated and loved!
Please make a difference in someones life this holiday season, please!!!

I wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year!!!!

I volunteer for a teen mom program in my community. I help out with a Christmas luncheon, put on by the volunteers. (They also run weekly programs as well, I usually help with the special events, Mother's Day & Christmas.) I help by bringing a salad or desert and also supply some gifts for door prizes. The idea is that each girl will receive a gift. The amount of money I spend isn't the issue. The most important gift is that these girls are loved by these volunteers who put on a nice lunch for them and they get to take home a memory.

Merry Christmas!

I want people to realize what Christmas is about. That it's not about giving but about loving one another for who we are. And it's about Jesus. If it wasn't for Jesus none of us would be here today. Remember your neighbors this Christmas. If they need something and you can give it to them. Then do it! Help make this Christmas very special for someone. Don't think about what you can get out of it. But think about what you can give. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!

WORLD PEACE!! I'm going to pass it along to everyone I have a chance to say 'Peace'. Lets pass it along to pray for world peace. To get along with and start by talking nicely to our neighbor, enemy, clerk at the store, mailman, phone solicitor, stranger and ask them to pass it along to be nice and pass peace along. The world would be so much better if people were nice to each other, including children, and helping each other. Our ancestors wouldn't have made it if they hadn't helped each other.

What I want for myself and others is for us to remember the true meaning of Christmas, which is Christ's birthday. I want us all to make it about Him and not ourselves.

To have a nice time- that's why we usually take our therapy cats to a senior's home. They wear little Santa hats, and we hand out wrapped cookies.
