Religion is the highest education, therefore each concept is greatly complicated:
God reveals His Message through several Messegers in various places, at different times, using many languages.
For the heedless, they don't care about the truth, they follow or deny religion based on the hearsay, they waver, they change, they suffer...
The believers, through prayers and meditations, soar above those varieties, realize the truth and accept suffering to serve mankind.
So, serving oneself or serving the world, it is up to the free will and the knowledge of each rational being.
