Hi all,
I am ready to try and get pregnant, and have been searching around for a good ovulation/fertility prediction calendar. They all ask when my last period was (of course) but I am curious which day I should put: should I put the actual FIRST day of my period, which is really only very light spotting when I go to the bathroom, or should I do the SECOND day, when it becomes heavy?

Also, if any of you have a good ovulation calendar that you really like online (because it's quick and easy!), let me know!

Thanks in advance!

I would go with the first day even though it is light this is normal, I normally didn't start till about 9 at night and I counted that as my first day and here I am almost 2 months along. A good website is mymonthlycycles it will show you on a calender which days your most fertile.

A word of caution: ovulation calendars are notoriously wrong. They base their calculations on the assumption that every woman has a 14 day lp (the time between when you ovulate and the time AF arrives again). This is not the case - some women have only 10 days, others have 12 or 15 days! If you have a 10 day LP, and the calendar is basing it on a 14day LP, you are going to miss your ovulation date by 4 days...and thus no getting pregnant for you! If you want to track your ovulation you would be better off using opk's or temping.

However, if you are going to use a calendar, you would put the first day of actual flow as the first day of your cycle. If you spot for a day, that isn't the first day unless it turns into actual flow before you go to bed.

Good luck!

I would highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler....ovulation calendars are limited and can't accurately predict your individual ovulation. Everyone is different......

Anyway, in her book she states that you should count the first day of actual flow as Day 1 of your period. Spotting is not counted as the start of your period.

Hi there,,

I would honestly track youf first day of sotting as cycle day 1. For me, that is when my temperature drops and I technically start my period. I get a day of slight spotting and low temperatures on that day. A GREAT site for fertility charting is fertilityfriend.com/ It is free and very thorough. Good luck!!!

Hey I like the ovulation calendar on this site www.ovulation-calendar.net And you use the first day of bleeding the first day you see bleeding.

Hi you need to use the first day of your period. That makes the calculations more accurate. Good luck to you!
