I've been in the horse business since 1971 and can say successful trainers are dedicated and love the sport. Some have degrees, some apprentice and some start as stall cleaners and work their way up.

Here is a link to one of the top Arabian Breeding and Show facilities in the country. Sheila Varian is very well known and respected by many people in the industry. Take a look at her profile. And also look at Mike and Jamie's profile. I think you'll find this very interesting.

Hope this helps you in some ways.

Btw, what breed and discipline are you interested in

Hi Louise,
At least for me, I was riding from the age of 2 and was and still am wild about horses.
Trained with a great dressage trainer and great jumping trainer for years.
Have bred Andalusians and Thoroughbreds for years and competed heavily.
I have ridden almost every day of my life up to 10 hours a day during competition until these past few years.
Find a good trainer in your area, apprentice under them, see if it is really something you want to do.
It takes a lot of work, patience, sacrifice and the ability to say OUCH often.
Good Luck, hope you do great
