Who did you write to and what did they say? Assuming that one of the secretary wrote back. I want to have an idea of what they might write if I wrote to Prince William.

The replies were responsive (not just a "form" letter.
What they might write would depend on what you wrote and why you wrote. OF COURSE, be polite, use proper salutation, appropriate complementary close [no, that is not where you compliment them] and do try to spell words correctly (preferably using British spellings) and avoid abbreviations such as used in emails, etc.

When I was about 8 Lady Diana (as she was then) and Prince Charles came to Melbourne and I went to the airport to meet them and I think I gave her a flower and she shook my hand and I was soooooo excited! I decided to write her a letter and I did get a reply from her secretary and I was so happy with it! I bet they still answer letters so you should write to them.

I sent a photo (of Prince Philip in Canada taken by my father) to the Queen c/o her private secretary. I had a reply the next day thanking me, and he said he remembered the occasion when the photo was taken.

I wrote a letter to Prince Charles and Camilla on their wedding a year ago. Surprisingly I received a response from the couple themselves. Thanking me for kind words. I have it framed.
