It'll be fine. It's more harmful to put less than recommended.

You have nothing to worry about. Water conditioner is not something that will harm your fish.

Reptileking is wrong, conditioner does not remove ammonia, it only removes chlorine and chloramine. You should always use conditioner when you do your weekly partial (25-30%) water changes to keep your fish healthy and happy.

There are products on the market that DO remove ammonia, but if you need them, that says you are not doing your water changes like you are supposed to.

Regular partial water changes keep the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates at almost 0 and is the single most important thing you can do to keep your tank healthy.

I do mine every week without fail and all my tanks are clear and healthy. The fish eat hungrily and meet me at the front of the tank when I walk in the room..... most of them, anyway. Some are bashful and stay hidden.

the chemical works by combining with chlorine to make chloride? which is harmless to the fish.

but for me it better just to age the the water for a day or 2....

ps... you don't need water conditioner if you don't have fish in there. Just set up the aquarium and wait a week and then put fish in it.

accually you are wrong, 8 in the corner. MOST brands of dechlorinators convert chlorine to something that is not harmful to fish, but when chloramine is converted it leaves NH3/NH4 behind. So if you have chloramine in your tap water and the product you use is only made for chlorine, then you WILL have ammonia in your tank.

IF you have chloramine in your tap water, ensure you are using a dechlorinator that also binds the ammonia to something that is not harmful to your fish. ie if the product was made for chloramine, then it IS removing the NH3/NH4.

Seachem prime is highly recommended.

it should be fine most water conditioners are made to be able to overdose up to 3-4 times depending on how bad your water is it will tell you on teh bottle how much ammonia and clorine each dose takes out. there is only one that i know of that is not good to od but only if you have fish in already
