Camouflage, regeneration and dual breeding. A bizarre fact is a star fish has two ways to produce. One is through eggs and sperm, but you can actually clone them if you cut them a certain way (using their regeneration property). Fisherman realized this when they would catch them and try to kill them by cutting them up because they were felt they were a threat to what they wanted. The more they cut them up, the more of these things they found.

Their outer covering is very hard and bone like, and even if they were to lose part of themselves..they can regenerate that part.
