If she can afford it, coach bags are awesome. I love mine! they have tons of different varieties in their store that you can choose from. I would recommend getting a smaller bag that will fit on your shoulder. Nine west also makes cute handbags if you are looking for something closer to $40 than to $200.

I custom-make quilted purses and would recommend a smaller purse with a strap that would go over the shoulder and across the back if she's not used to carrying a bag. The simple logic: it will help her get used to having one with her all the time while keeping her hands free when necessary.
The possible mishap in a standard bag: having a regular short-handled purse, setting it down and forgetting it somewhere - a common occurrence for those not used to constantly tending to a purse.

my advice would be to start off with a small purse. this way, you can get comfortable with having one and can move up gradually, if you need to. im not too sure that she should start off with coach seeing as when you first start using a purse it is quick to slip your mind and can easily be forgotten somewhere and a coach purse is not the type of purse you want to loose.

You can put a lot of things in a coach. If you take out the seats you'll have even more room. Maybe the kitchen sink will fit too. Bonus!

I would say just use one that fits everything she needs in it. Like her wallet keys maybe a makeup bag some spray and lotion. or whatever she uses.
