In Encinitas (a short 15ish minute drive with no traffic and well worth it!!), there is a great and much less crowded beach called Moonlight beach. It is gorgeous, and it has decent bathrooms, great volleyball courts, lifeguards, and firepits. It is also located only a block from old Encinitas, which has some sweet cafes and such. Very not touristy. To get to it, head North on the 5 Freeway, exit at Encinitas boulevard, make a Left (going west), and when you hit the ocean, you will be at moonlight beach. Good luck! Email me if you need more San Diego info. I'm excited for you!

Mission Beach (and Pacific Beach just to the north) is the party place where you can do just about anything. If you like girl (or boy) watching the only place that beats it is Black's, which is clothing optional.

Ocean Beach is similar to Mission, only a little bit smaller. OB still looks like the 60s; don't miss The Black right on the main drag, it's the biggest remaining head shop anywhere.

Actually, there are beaches all the way up the coast. Some are mainly for surfing but they're all beautiful. I'm came out here from Minnesota and was blown away by how big they are, not to mention the girls - it's like spring break every day of the year out here.

Have a blast!

I'm going to suggest Pacific Beach, Mission Beach or Ocean Beach, that's where a lot of college students spend their time. Coronado Beach is a nice beach, it's more popular for families.
Have fun!

SDSU is better known school than CSULB. yes there are tons of things to do in SD. beach, surfing, hiking, running, as well as many attractions like the san diego zoo, seaworld, san diego charges, san diego padres, old town san diego, etc. most of my friends who live in san diego live very healthy and active lifestyles out there, so i'm sure you'll find tons of recreational activities also.

Probably Pacific Beach -- by Belmont Park. Vintage beach scene kind of like Santa Monica used to be. I think this is where MTV has taped stuff in the past.

Pacific Beach....the locals call it PB. Tons of good bars. But dont drink and drive. Its a bad idea anyway and the cops are always working the area on the weekend.
