Our pets deserve the best of care. They're there for us whether we're happy or sad and they treat us humans far better than some of us deserve to be treated.
I would like one day to be the person that my dog already believes me to be.

Absolutely. All mine get vaccinated and I've spent unmentionable amounts on surgeries and medications when the situation has warranted it, even overcoming my fear of needles so that I could give injections at home rather than stress them with daily vet visits. There have been times I've made a conscious decision to take on an animal with health problems specifically so I can be sure it will get some quality of life in the time it has left. It's all part of being a responsible pet owner.

I try to make my pets as happy as possible. They go to the vet and get their shots every year. They get all the routine maintainance. However,I also think that you should put a monetary value on the animal (after all it's not a human being) You should also consider the lifespan and future quality of life for the animal. then weigh all this against the cost of the animal and the cost of repair. If it is going to cost 4 thousand dollars to fix a 60 dollar animal that has a lifespan of 5 years and 2 of those years are already used up ......Well, lets just say that if it's got 4 legs and it ain't rite...put it down.....Humanely. again it is not a person, it's an animal.

I love my pets, and i do everything to make sure they recieve excellent care on a daily basis. My pup gets his heartguard & his frontline every month, i feed him only nutro max and let him lick the plates after supper (not alot of scraps) he gets a greenie once a week to clean his teeth & lots of love & attention. He is neutered, and he sees the vet at least once a year, unless he has a problem they he has to go more often, last year he had a growth on his eye removed, it didn't cost that much for the surgery, but the biopsy was pricey. I just had to know to make sure it wasn't cancer, so i paid the extra money for piece of mind.
My fish are well cared for also, they get the best food and treats, thier tank is regulary maintained & water is tested to make sure all is well. As long as the enviornmet of a fish is stabalized, thier health will remain good. It is when the water gets too polluted, that thier immune systems fail and they get sick. I am very careful to keep my water perameters just so. My pets are part of my family, and yes i have 2 children, 13 & 3... so i am not infantalizing my animals, i just think that if you take on a pet you should give it the best that you can afford, it is your responsibilty to provide best care possible for them.

I think this involves many elements.
Why do you have this pet? People who have pets as 'substitute children' will do literally anything for them. People with pets for 'living decorations' tend to treat them as if they were as disposable as a plant.
What kind of pet? It is tough for many people to justify a bill of hundreds of dollars for a pet that cost under $50.
What is the family situation? If the choice if food on the table or vet bills, what do you choose?
Personally, I think you take on a responsibility when you take on a pet, and part of the deal is that you owe the animal the care it needs. If you cannot offer that level of care, choose a different pet.
When our dog was hit by a car, we sought emergency, after-hours care and swallowed the big bill- tough as it was (at Christmas to boot!) When my pet rat got too ill to take care of itself anymore, we chose to euthanize it at home. This although personally I liked my rat better than the family dog (OK, not 100% true, but sometimes!)

I definitely believe in giving my pets the best of care. They go to the vet when they need to and for their yearly checkups and vaccinations. I have a real problem with people who have pets but don't want to take proper care of them. If you take the responsibility for a pet, the responsibility of caring for them comes with it! It's only right and it's only fair.

Vet care, food, shelter, and water are legally required of all dog owners. But anyone who provides only that does not deserve to own an animal.

i would treat a pet as a human. they deserve to be loved and cared for... especially because they cannot help themselves. they are like the very young, and the very old.
one day, i will have a big farm where i can take care of as many animals that i can. that is one of my dreams.

i do believe pets deserve excellent care but it does not always have to mean dr visits expecially since i know personally i hate them, and my animals don't enjoy the shots.
yeah my animals don't like worm or flea medicine but its for their health not mine. whatever my animals need i will give them.
