Oh my god, I just finished that book not too long ago. But any how, Elie doesn't let himself die at the end because he was his father's only hope to live. After that, it was just the timing of how he was liberated. There weren't many details of what happened after his father died.

because he had to survive for his family and meet up with his mom and sisters because he didnt know if they were alive. Plus I think a friend died for him and his father made him live while he was sick so it kept him going.
I read the book two years ago so this might not be totally correct
