as long as its not something else that will rot easily like veggies or bananas...
The following items MAY work...
- Dried Citrus Fruits
- Perfume
- Deodorant
- Charcoal
- Baking Soda
- Cinnamon
- Flour
- Baby Powder
And a little note! please dun place more potatoes!!! It will make it even worse, since the "rotting agents" are still present in ur cupboard, that will rot ur new potatoes away..
Oh ya.. a little more tip for you... The black stuffs created by the rotting potatoes are in fact quite fertile for plants, feel free to scrap it up and throw it to the plants around u!!!

Put a box of open baking soda in your cupboard. You could also take white vinegar and pour in the wood. The vinegar will smell for awhile but it disappears. Good Luck!

I really doubt it's a slice of potato.... potatoes do, however, absorb excess salt if you over salt something you're cooking. Maybe that was what you were thinking of with the potato? Another slice of potato in your cupboard would just rot again and perpetuate the rotten smell. Good luck!

Sprinkle baking soda on the wood and let it sit. Then once you've done that, try dabbing some orange oil (wood cleaner) - the oily one into the spot. As for a slice of potato, that is used to soak up too much salt in a pot of soup or stew. ;)

baking soda, or even cat litter should soak up the odor, you might need to apply and sweep up more than once.
