Well, the old Peter Lorre movie "M" certainly fits the category.

Sophie's Choice - a woman is leaving a Nazi concentration camp and they tell her she is only allowed to take one of her children with her - her four year old boy or her five year old girl (or something like that, it's been a long time.) If she doesn't choose, they kill both of them. So she has to choose one child over another, which is a terrible thing to do because the other child is guaranteed to die. Then again, she had to choose to save one of them.

Animal Factory - Willem Dafoe is a hardened criminal in prison and Edward Furlong is a new arrival who got an unusually long sentence for his first offense. Willem Dafoe's character helps Furlong escape because he comes to love him and he knows Furlong won't survive in prison. So he did it out of love and compassion, but what he did was illegal.

Have you ever seen the movie Frailty? Well, if you haven't, it's about this guy that has visions of the Archangel coming to him at work, right. The Angel tells him the names of demons that he must kill. And he does. He even finds out his son is one of these "demons". I didn't think nothing of it. Now that I think about it, that totally defies christian law. To me that is a gray area. Edward Norton shoots himself to get rid of Brad Pitt (his alter ego/personality) in Fight Club. Was he a hero in that movie? There are alot of movies that do that.

the majority if not all of Bruce Willis' characters find themselves in gray patches. Denzel Washington also his characters are in that same gray area. I believe that most modern day Hollywood pictures cast the good guy in a gray light.

Batman Returns.
Watch it as a serious piece of art, seriously.

This movie is about the hidden motivations and circumstances that make people do what they do. I think that the moral is that we are not capable of accurately judging each other.

Payback.

It is a film where everyone is evil and bad, but Mel Gibson is the least bad.

If you do bad things to bad people, are you bad in doing it?
