We use enfamil A.R..Dr Brown's bottles and started Zantac this week twice a day. He still spits up (throws up) from end of one bottle to the beginning of the next. ALOT. He is growing, but I don't want him hurting. He has cried much more than my other 2 children ever did and I can see the scared look in his facewhen he chokes sometimes. I really need help.

I have asked my doctor, hence the Zantac that is given by prescription. Right now all he is saying is to use the medication. I was just hoping someone might have tried something I haven't that has worked.

I am the mother of 5 children all who are in their 20s now. My son had the same problem and I know when I answer this, there will be many BOOS and HISS' from mothers and Dr's.
From the day we brought this beautiful baby home he threw up..not spit up, but projectile vomiting. After two full months of this formula and that formula and finally trying GOAT's milk...My mother in law (who by the way raised 13 children with no fatalities) watched the baby one night. Upon returning I found my beautiful baby sleeping peacefully for the first time. I ask her, NO I begged her..."WHAT DID YOU GIVE HIM???"
She simply said..."MILK" Plain ole vitamin D whole milk. He did not throw up, spit up, have allergies and was not a weight bothered child, pre teen or young adult. He was athletic, smart and strong. He is now in his mid twenties...still Loves milk. He had no Asama or any allergies what so ever
I did put him on 2 %...but it was still just plain milk.
Being a new mother is hard, even when you have other children. EVERYONE has their opinions. What they told us years ago is not true today....but what they said years ago then said NO NO NO they are saying to do now...So you do what you think. Do your research and use those instincts God gave you. I think you are going to be and are an awesome Mom already...
Good luck

My son had reflux also, what MY doctor recommended and helped was have him slightly on an incline head up toes down. Not as much as a 45 degree incline, but something that will incline your baby. Be careful of rolling off of what you use or suffocation. What I used was a pack-n-play that came with a bassinet, used the bassinet and put a pillow between the bassinet harness and the mat. Then put a blanket rolled up under his legs so he wouldn't slide down. A rolled up blanket on each side. It helped. If your baby spits up after every time it eats try feeding your baby a little less more times a day. My doctor also recommended a little baby cereal in with the formula. I think it was 3Tbs. to every 6oz. formula. It make their food a little thicker and easier to hold down. Cereal won't hurt. Don't jump on my advice. Ask your doctor about all these things. It only takes a phone call. Good luck.

Both my children had it. I could not give them juice or clear fluids until they were able to pull themselves up by themselves to a standing position, the doctor said it was because the muscles in the throat area was not formed yet. I had to put cereal in their bottles to make it thicker so it would stay down easier. Try a little and build until you see a difference. Keep them propped up at night. I actually had to uprise the crib. A padded car seat was used until they were moving too much. It is a hard thing to deal with and scary, but dont worry it does end. It was really hard when they had the flu, pedialyte would come up as they were drinking, so couldn't do that. It will go away my daughter was 8 months, my son 10. Once your baby is able to pull themselves up you'll notice soon after poof it's gone, Good Luck! I knew my daughter had immediately after she was born. My doctor said it was too soon to tell, that night she spit up blood. A mothers intuition, lol and I had dealt with it with my son. You have to cut the nipples of the bottles gradually to help the formula go through. I also should ask if it is what my children had, when they spit up it's not curldled? it is still undigested, thats how the doctor knew, it is worse when they are laying down flat, I learned to change a diaper in 2 seconds.

Have you considered re-lactating? Breastmilk is a natural antacid. My baby had reflux really bad (you could hear him swallowing on and off all the time and spit up constantly) but it never hurt him. There are herbs and drugs you can take to re-lactate and isn't too late for your baby to learn how to latch on, or you could pump.
Also sleeping on an incline helps.
Actually Goat's milk isn't a bad idea, here is the recipe for Goat's Milk Formula:

Have you tried Woodwards Grip water and maybe prop up the baby a little after eating. Also you could try a hot water bottle with a towel over it.

What does your pediatrician recommend? This really is a question for your doctor to answer.
