I have the same problem, but as long as i keep acrylic nails on at all times then i don't bite.. You know, the kind of nails you go to a salon & have them put on..A full set is anywhere between $15.00 and $35.00 where i live and then you have to get them filled every two weeks, which is about 10-15 bucks.II promise it is worth every penny! it's painful to have raw, chewed up nubs for fingertips! It's the only thing that has ever kept me from biting mine, hope you'll give it a try..let me know how it works...

I have been there too dear...there are several succesful ways that I've used to stop... i started again when I started playing harp and had to keep my nails down to the nibs... but when I needed to stop, I used these methods:
1) Keep a rubber band around your wrist. Whenever you find yourself biting your nails or cuticles, snap the band against your skin. You'll teach your body not to want your hand near your mouth. It takes a couple days to start working, but its by far the most permanent fix.
2) Like other ladies said, get acrylics put on. It has the downsides of continual upkeep, and in my opinion, get a tiny bit annoying, especially if you wear contacts or play an instrument, but it'll stop you from wanting to bit your nails.
3) They actually make a bitter nail polish to stop biting.... but I think you're beyond that. I'd put it on, and just scrape it off with my teeth later (gross I know, but a bad habit is a bad habit...!)
4) Whenever you find yourself biting your nails or cuticles, do 5 pushups or situps... this is also very effective, but a bit more difficult to pull off in a professional environment or whatever.
I'd give the rubber band a shot.... keep working at it... you'll be suprised at how satisfying it is to beat the habit all by yourself.

It sounds like you have an addiction here. You are going to have to stop cold turkey. Medication is easy to prescibe from a doctor. If you are strong, you can stop it yourself. You need to substitute the time you start to bite and do something else. This addiction is the same as any other and you have to find a way to stop it. You can read a book, start a hobby, take a walk or a drive or visit a friend. It all starts with you. Only you can stop this.

I am a MAN but I think I know the very simple solution!! Buy an ALOE plant!! any flower store should have them. cut off one leaf and spread a little of its juice on your nails (you can spread a lot because it is poison FREE - it is very healthy!!)
Although the aloe is VERY bitter!! if you put your finger to your mouth you will have very bad taste in your mouth for couple of minutes or even longer!!
I think you should try this method. It is natural, it cannot make anything worse, it may only help.
GOOD LUCK!!

My mom had the exact same problem, but she fixed it really quickly with fake nails. At first she got the regular ones at the nail salon with the paint on them and then moved on to the french manicured solar nails. They both worked great, she still bites them, but they're stronger so they don't break.
Hope that helps :)

That is kind of gross. It sounds like you should have grown out of that habit. It could be something more psychological than anything. Are you a nervous person or do you get anxiety attacks? Try talking to a counselor. You may not even be aware that you have a problem like that. I wish you luck.

Well... this may sound a little odd but have you tried hypnotism, I have a friend who had that same problem and a hypnotist really just made him think that his fingernails tasted really nasty and it solved the problem! You should look into it
