Well without knowing your computer specs it is difficult do you have an agp card or a pci-express card currently or if it is a really old system maybe even a pci card.
Once you know that it is rather simple by a new card of the type you need.
1st remove the any divers and software for your old card
then shut system down and open case.
remove the old card and insert the new card
(note many video card slots have locking clips on the right side of the card slot)
Make sure the card is fully seated and any locking clips engaged
reconnect monitor to new card and reboot
then just use the installation cd to install new drivers and software and viola done

I'd recommending getting a PCI Express 16x if your mother board has that port ,if not , get and AGP. Get one with either a 256 or 512 memory cache. I recomment ATI. After you buy it , uninstall any other graphic drivers on your computer. Shut your computer off , open it up , locate the grapic card(look in the manuel.) It should sorta be in the middle to bottom of the mother board , depending of the port type and the way it's facing. Now , yank the other one out , and put the new one in. Turn your comptuer on , pop in the CD with your new driver , install it , and your done. Happy gaming , lol.

Buy a new one and have them install it for you. I say this because there are many things that could go wrong if your not careful and it doesn't sound like you've done anything like this.
