It was an accident. People can blame you all they want. You did it, however it was an accident and you don't have to feel guilty about it. Let it go. If they want to obsess and criticize, they are free to waste their time, but you don't have to dwell on it.

Was it some antique ornament or something that held a lot of value to someone in your family? If so, maybe they shouldn't have hung it on the Christmas tree or let it come in contact with people. Accidents happen and I am sure they will get over it.
