We know, from lesson two, that the names of the six open strings are E A D G B and E. We also know, from lesson four, how to count up a string, and find the names of the notes on that string. Using this knowledge, we can count up the low E string (which is in tune), until we reach the note A, on the fifth fret. Knowing this note is in tune, we can use it as a reference pitch, and tune the open fifth string until it sounds the same as the sixth string, fifth fret.

What in the heck does any of this jibberish mean? I am so confused. please help... if you can

Hey again! Getting into a little bit of Guitar theory arnt we? =) What that jibberish means is that knowing that you've tuned the low E string correctly you can tune the next string which is the A string. If you go into guitar theory a bit farther, you would know that the notes on one string is repeated but just higher everytime it is repeated. I'm not going to go any further because that will confuse you. You just have to know where the A note is on the low E string so then just the the A string based on the A note on the E string. I really hope im not confusing you but where are you getting these lessons from anyways? If your a beginner, id say just buy a guitar tuner. It's so much easier becaus you just plug it your guitar in and tune it. Heres a link for the tuner I have. Its cheap and it works..

you dont have to buy it online, your local music store may carry it. If your buying locally, just ask someone to help you buy a simple tuner for your guitar. You can also contact me for any further questions regarding the guitar... I've been playing for a while now and I gotta tell ya, it's definitely something else alright... Merry Christmas!

Simply - hold the E-string down on the 5th fret down the neck and that should be the same as playing the next string open. Adjust the second string until it matches the 5th fret on the E-string. Do the same on the next 2 strings but on your G-string hold the 4th fret to tune the B or second string and then back to the 5th fret for the high E-string. Voila your guitar is now tuned to what is known as "concert tuning"
