The answer is simple: Do you want a single processor system or a dual processor system?
The Duo is simply 2 processors in a single silicon package.
Trust me, you want the duo, it is worth the extra $100 or so....

I'm not an expert on laptops really, but dual core processors mean that there are two processors on one chip. So it's faster and better when multitasking.

Duo processors are not just for partitioning different OS's. They let your computer do more things at once. One process can use one while another process is using the other.

.
The point of duo processors is
to assign each one to partitioned OSes
Example:
Processor 1 assigned to W98 on one partition
Processor 2 assigned to WXP on the other partion of the
same hard drive.
If you do not have two Operating Systems on your hard drive,
then one Processor would be reasonable...so make sure it is compatible with your motherboard as big as allowed for the best speed.

The other is an assistant. Emp, like double engine for a motor vehicle, if one has any defect, the other would work, so as your laptop can do work fast and any repair or service can be done to your convenience.
