its hard, we are now reaping the benefits of the past administrations. I really do not think anything could be done to save America. As a matter of fact I personally believe this is the start of a change that will take place over the next decade. America needs a big change, The Democratic system in place today, is not the system that will be in place in 20 years or so.
If the fathers of the constitution was alive to see what America has evolved into they would be really discouraged. I hate to sound discourages.. but anyplace where the people would pay millions for sports stars, ans actors to get filthy rich. While the people who are needed, public service, teachers, military service members are paid minimal amounts.. I am amazed to realize that. America is evolved away from what it was made to be,

We need to devise a better system for monitoring our ports. That's our biggest danger area right now. We could sure use the National Guard to help with our borders, this would be a worthy way to use their abilities. But unfortunately, they aren't available for awhile. We need to be sure we have open and lightening fast communication between air traffic controllers and the military, including a shared hard and fast chain of command in case of national emergency. We need to be beyond sure that our intelligence agencies aren't keeping secrets from each other anymore. One-upmanship in this arena can sink us all, it has already cost us lives and resources that could have been put to better use. Friendly exchange with foreign intelligence should be high on the list as well.

I think by bringing the military back home and rethinking how we respond to any terror attack. We need small striking forces that can go into a country and successfully reach the objective of removing those terrorist leaders that are causing the problems. Good intelligence is also important, we are never going to win the war on terror by might alone. We need to out smart these people and this I think can be achieved without occupying foreign land.

Stop supporting terrorism. We have supported those who exploit, manipulate, and otherwise terrorize people all over the planet from South America to Vietnam. The international "corporate" juggernaut, that would consume the planet and all us disposable wage slaves, marches on under the guise "it is good for the economy." We have slept through all this, allowing our millitary to be used as security guards for the megarich, while all sorts of crimes against humanity are committed, like invading Iraq for oil or dumping toxic waste in poor countries on purpose, calculating that if they sue, it still won't cost that much. We have become a super arrogant powerhouse with an insatiable appetite for resources that won't be stopped, no matter who it hurts. Why are there terrorists? To stop this institutiionalized rape of the world that is backed up by the finest military in history.

The answer, I think, is a complete reform of the way we approach the issue. First, we have to realize that much of the reason why these terrorists are attacking us is because of things we have done to them in the past. I am in no way excusing the terrible and evil acts they commit, but let's be responsible in assigning blame, not blindly nationalistic.

First, we have to fix our foreign relations. Usurping the United Nations, breaking treaties, and generally turning our back on the global community is not the way to make friends; all it does is create more enemies for us and thus more threats against our security. I think one day a president with enough courage needs to stand up and formally apologize for all the **** we did in the past that has made these people hate us. Like the 1953 coup in Iran which we orchestrated, or using Saddam Hussein to fight the Iranians in the 80s which caused us a lot more grief than it was worth. We have to realize that the enemy of our enemy is not our friend and that if we are ever going to end terrorism against us we must do so diplomatically, by changing the ideas of people, rather than by force, which only reinforces their hatred of us.

Second, on the domestic front, we have to be careful not to fall into the common pitfalls to which national security threats tend to lead us. We must preserve those freedoms and rights which make America the standard-bearer of democracy in the world, even today. We cannot allow ourselves to be so consumed by our fear that we allow our liberties to slip out the door, otherwise we have already lost to the terrorists. This is not to say that we oughtn't enhance our security measures or what not, but we must do so responsibly and with careful measure so that our basic freedoms are not infringed. The only way to beat them is to remember who we are and what we stand for. The great American ideals, if we are to win, must be defended both at home and abroad. Pointless wars in impoverished nations will do us no good in the long run.

A step in the right direction would be to employ the 901 (A) Organized Crime Act of 1970-- RICO against the ACLU.

Carry this offensive forward by doing the same to CAIR and the other fronts for terrorists, i.e., "charity and outreach groups"

This would be a start.

Mold it's armed forces exactly like Israel's. they are always striking first to eliminate possible threats. We need to do the same. Also we should encourage more people to join the military. We should all be part of protecting ourselves at home and abroad.

Good police work and intelligence, combined with smart foreign policy and minimal use of the military.

I've always found it strange that the administration has said from day one that this was "a new kind of war" and then insisted on fighting it like World War II.
