I'm thinking about getting an IPod Shuffle for my sister, but we already have tons of music. (Yes, mostly illegal. No, I don't have a problem with that.) Am I going to be able to put those files on the Shuffle or are they going to need to be purchased?

I'm glad you dont' have a problem stealing the work of other artists whom you enjoy. They'll be worthless on Itunes.

Don't get a shuffle they cost way to much for that size of player. Plus they don't have a display screen to show you what music is on there. If your music is in Windows Media Player, get a different mp3 player. You can get a sandisk 2gb player for about the same price and a 1gb for less than $50.

It should work fine! iTunes uses its own special file format;not mp3 or wav, etc. Before I got my iPod shuffle and iPod photo, the music on my computer was mp3 files. When you install the iTunes program on your computer if you get the shuffle, you can choose to have it convert the music already on your computer to the iTunes format (wich I think i called aac files maybe) and have that music added to your iTunes music library. From there it is very simple to get music to your shuffle.

That's how it worked for me anyway. =] Hope that helped.

The answer you are looking for is YES. Although mostly illegal, your Ipod Shuffle will not know this and will accept all, yes all, your music. Hope this answer helps your dilemma.

No, they don't have to be purchased, but watch yourself on all the illegal downloading. The first person was arrested for over using Limewire couple months ago. Look at the Guiness World Book: 2007

Do not buy an ipod, they use DMR (Digital Rights Management) which forces you to buy your music, and eventually will force you to buy any digital information! Check out defectivebydesign.com. iPod and Itunes are BAD, spread the word~

As long as they're in a format the iPod supports, you can fill it to capacity with songs purchased...or acquired otherwise

Nope, you can definitely put them on the shuffle as long as they're in mp3 format. (I do the same thing on my nano.)

You won't have to purchase anything, no.

As long as the music is in iTunes, it can be put into her Shuffle.

Cheers,
