My 1996 camaro has had its fair share of wiring meltdowns, which i have had fixed within the last 6 months... The headlights, taillights, and dash lights were all burnt out because of a meltdown. I am wondering, is this a fuse- because I checked both the turn b/u and the hazard fuses and they look fine? Help if you can ... please

you have a bad turn signal flasher which it should be in or near the fuse box, just turn the hazzard flashers on and go to the fuse box and listen for ticking noise that the hazzard flashers make and you should be able to see where it is, it's a round silver canister that should just plug into the fuse box. good luck.

First of all the turn-signals have a different blinker unit,- try switching blinker units, - the little round thing about 1 in in dia and 3/4 inch tall, (near fuse panel), sometimes the 4-way unit is in a different place, - (but since the 4-ways are working, just follow your ears)! If this cures the problem then you know what to get!

Another possible problem is that sometimes the connections on the 4-way switch (emerg sw), -get a litttle corrosion on the (brass) contacts. If you "snap" the switch in and out a few times it will clean the contacts enough that the TS will work again!

Since the lights all work on 4-way you know that it is not bad circuits or bulbs, (because the 4-way confirms those circuits)!

The last possiblilty is that the switch itself has a bad "spider" (the part that moves with the turn-signal arm to make switch contacts). ... It is also remotely possible that the switch assembly is bad (possibly "fried a little plastic" in your "previous meltdown" problem?) If you have a problem here, the steering wheel and some other stuff has to be removed from on top to get to it! It requires a couple special tools to get it apart, - if you want to do it, ----it isn't real hard, but I suggest you get a Haynes Auto Repair manual (Auto Zone among others, - sells them for less than$20)-- you can "borrow" the tools at the auto parts store too, as it is kind of expensive to buy them for one use (though might be cheaper than a garage still)! Or it is possible that you have already bought a manual, - if you have had all kinds of wiring problems,-- and took care of them yourself!

Sometimes the signals have a separate flasher than the hazard lights...you can usually swap them temporarily to see if you can isolate the problem.

Also ensure that all the bulbs are good because although they should flash faster when one is burnt out, sometimes they will do the opposite and not blink at all.

I have had the same problem before and I believe that the hazard lights are a separate bulb.It may be your wiring or a bulb.Take it to a mechanic to be sure.Good luck.
