Is that where you plug in the modem, because i dont understand if a switch shares the connection?

The uplink plug is for connecting another switch to that switch.

Normally you need a crossover cable to connect a switch to another switch. But, if one has an uplink, you can connect the two together without needing a crossover cable.

Uplink is where the cable that comes from the ISP modem plugs into. The rest of them would be ports for machines on your local network. A switch alone does not allow you to share a network you would need a router to create a local network
