My left knee clicks when I go up the stairs. It also hurts very badly when I sit in a chair for too long. I sometimes wakeup with this intense pain in my knee and bending it doesn't help as it does with a "charliehorse" or whatever. I have trouble getting down the stairs because It feels like I am putting too much pressure on it.
If you know something about this please help!
Thanks

You should get it checked out by your doctor. My knee used to feel that way every now and then and does when I run a lot or do something vigorous for too long, and still will at times, especially when my right knee is bent for too long(when I fold my legs sitting or am bent down), it aches extremely bad for a while. I'd be careful if I were you. But def go to the doctor. Hope your feeling better soon!!!!

I had this problem a number of years ago. A lot of people can be helped by some simple physiotherapy exercises, so go and see your doctor.

You may be sent for MRI scans and/or x-rays of your knees to check what is wrong with them. This enables the doctor to see if you have torn cartilage or, like I did, kneecaps that weren't sitting in the correct place.

I ended up having a couple of knee operations to correct it (I got to the point that I couldn't actually walk or stand) and now I can quite happily do everything without pain.

In the short term taking some painkillers and either applying a heat pad or ice (different things work better for different people) will ease the pain. Those wheat bags you can get are great as you can freeze or heat them and they mould to the shape of your knee.

Don't worry, for most people it will be a short term problem that can be fixed by the right exercises - the soner you get it seen to, though, the better. You don't want it getting worse!

Good luck!

Am having about the same problem. When to the doctor and had to have an MRI on the left knee. Found out that I torn a ligament and am having therapy on it for 3 x a week for 3 weeks. Doctor told me if that don't help then I have to talk to him about having surgery. I was carrying my grand daughter down some porch steps and slipped on some ice.

I had knee pain and after wasting three years running between GP , Physiotherapist and foot special I found out that my one leg is 1.5 cm shorter than the other (which is the cause of pain) which nobody noticed including me. my whole life (35 years)
I wish I knew before but...... anyways now I'm putting shoe raise which helps a lot
There could be some other reason as well so better see your GP and tell him/her to refer you to the physiotherapist immediately and then tell you physio to check the Lenth of your legs .

you may have a tear in one or more of the cartilidge in your knee. also there most likely is inflamation causing puffiness in your out knee area, this can cause pain as well. simple knee exam by a doctor would confirm my diagnosis. The surgery for the repair, if needed is virtually painless and usually out paitient.

Id suggest you see your doctor as soon as you can. i had a similar prob that i put up with for ages thinking it was because id gained weight, turned out to be bursitis (or water on the knee)and was easily treated with anti ingflammatory gel. your knees are not tio be messed about with, you need them!

If we knew how old you were or.... your weight and activity level, I would help a little more.

But from what you said, just take an Advil or something. Also a chiropractor of X-Ray maght help if you wanna go thought that.

you most likely have arthritis-----get some aleve(sp?) and also try rubbing Flexall max strength on it. When you get up out of the chair stretch your leg out before you get up, it may pop, but regardless of whether it does or not it will probably feel better.
