Instead of taking the advice of a ton of people who probably have differing tastes than you do- go to www.sephora.com, click on fragrances and about half-way down the left side there's a link to a fragrance finder. You can choose the types of scents you like and it will show you the ones fit what you said. Of course, you are probably going to want to go to a department store to make sure the fragrance is something you really like- but sephora will give you an idea of what you would like best.
P.S. if you go to a department store, they say that after you smell 3 different perfumes your nose goes on scent overload and coffee beans don't really help that- so if you have a few in mind before you go- you can choose carefully what you want to sniff at the store. Good luck!

Fragrance always smells different on different people the best way to pick out a fragrance is to buy the smaller bottles like travel size and try it on for a week and see how you and your friends like it

P.S If you need any more suggestions you can e-mail me @ janetwoodmansee@yahoo.com

If you'll go to http://www.basenotes.net/ it's probably the best fragrance sites on the net. Great descriptions of thousands of fragrances along with which house they're from and where to get whatever you decide on.

They have a forum as well and members have swap lists or are willing to decant varieties you might be interested in for sample prices.

You can also look up fragrances by scent. i.e. if you prefer florals, musks, citrus, etc.

Hope this helps.

You should go to one of those "make your own fragrance" places (usually at a bath and body store) and see what scents YOU like best.
Test them on your skin too because some scents change in smell as they react with your skin oil.
My favorites for me are the florientals-- spicy florals.
But when I make my own, I love vanilla and almond together.
I am a teacher and all the kids (kindergarten and 1st) tell me I smell really good-- and they DO NOT lie, so I know I picked the right one for me. LOL!

It depends on whay you want to do with fragrance. Do you want to have one only that will become your sort of signature fragrance or do you want to play around with several, say one for daytime and one for evening wear? I agree with the first answer that you should sample, which you can do at most sundries stores and department stores. Do not rub any fragrance into your skin, dab it lightly since anything harsher can interfere with the mixture of frangrances. Do not expose them to harsh temperatures as that can also alter the chemical composition.

I like Oscar de la Renta for everyday wear and something really special like Coco by Chanel or Paloma Picasso for special events. Victoria's Secret has a gorgeous fragrance called Rapture that is very lush. Karl Lagerfeld has a discontinued fragrance called KL that can be found on Ebay. KL is distinctive for its undertone of orange blossoms. I also like Ysatis and Sung and Champagne which I believe is made by Yves Saint Laurent .
The last three are really lovely and great for dressy events.

Go to the Perfume counter at a dept. store and smell a different variety, there are alot of good scents out there.I like:
Fantasy by Britney Spears
Poison by Christian Dior
Deep Red by Hugo Boss
Surreal by Avon
Wink by Avon
If you find an Avon rep in your town they can give you samples of their perfumes. Fantasy by Britney gets alot of compliments.

depending on your age and what kind of smell you're trying to go for - sweet, sexy, musky, spicy, etc. My sister works at a department store at the fragrance section, so she always brings home with tons of samples, feel free to contact me if you need some advice. :)

Girl, you better go to the store and spray them on your pulse points.

Perfume smells differently on different people because the skin is different.
My friend loves ANGEL INNOCENT Perfume by Thierry Mugler but on my skin smells like medicine.

You have to spray them on your skin. Good Luck
