When ever life starts to feel disorganized and I feel I am constantly looking for things and running late.
When, after I clean, the house still seems "dirty".
When I can't decide what to wear - over and over.

Those are the times when I tend to declutter and get rid of things.

There are several factors, but the fact that I hate clutter is the biggest motivator.I have a hard and fast rule, if I haven't worn an article of clothing or used some item in my household in the past six months, out it goes. Usually, I don't throw it away unless it is useless junk, I donate to Goodwill and The Salvation Army instead.

Well, I don't throw away my stuff that I don't need any more unless it is in bad condition. I like to get rid of stuff though to create more room in my home and make it feel less cluttered sometimes. What I do is take a big cardboard box and a big lined trashcan. What is trash I throw away and I donate the box to charity after it is full.

I hate clutter, so I like to have everything looking nice - thats motivation enough for me. But, if I still need an extra push, I just think about what types of new things I can buy to replace the stuff I'm getting rid of.

I would say a planned cross-country move is a good motivator. Or when you realize you've been a packrat all your life and friends are disgusted with having to help you move again because by now they would have thrown away most of that stuff and don't understand why you haven't.

Anything that one has not used for the past six months and there is every likelihood that it will not be used for another three months to come, can be termed as thrash. It is best to do away with it or give it to one who needs it and puts it to use, there by creating space and the feel that one is not dwelling in a thrash bin.

I had to move and I couldn't fit it all in 2 trucks. The funny thing is I set out tons of stuff I thought I'd have to pay the sanitation dept. to carry away, but almost everything got carried off in the night by my neighbors and I didn't have to pay extra to sanitation. So, maybe you should have a yard sale. I didn't have time.

When my bf and I were moving in together into a duplex I got rid of so much stuff. I gave away my couch, entertainment stand, toaster oven, tv tables, coffee table, lots of clothes, lamps, my bed, and a radio/cassette player. No one wanted my microwave so it's down in the basement. Sometimes I wonder WHAT WAS I THINKING?!!
