I've used computers for years an sense this is a silly question. But my Gateway (Phillips DVD+-rw sdvd8441) drive wont write to dvd. I though I bought the wrong disks but I have tried them all. Im starting to think I really dont have a DVD writer.

many laptops come w/ a combo drive cd writer and dvdrom unless it is a top of the line model you usually had to pay extra for an internal dvd burner. either way you can check it in your device manager. go to control panel >System > Hardware tab then click on device manager. Then expand the dvd/cd rom and look at what type of drive you have. If you don't have a dvd burner there are several usb and firewire dvd burners available fairly cheaply.

It will only burn to a + or - RW not a + or - R disc... Just get a +RW and it should work. I have also read that this burner has had alot of problems too, so if it wont write to a disc it might be time to buy another burner.
