I am afraid that none of the above suggestions will help you with your Gold Codec / Virus Burster computer infection.
What you thought was a codec to watch some video, was actually a ruse. A scam if you will. It was not a codec at all. (The video would have played fine without that "Gold Codec")! What you actually downloaded was a Trojan called "Zlob".
This trojan then "phoned home" and installed the VirusBurster adware on your computer with out your knowledge.
Your computer has a Smitfraud infection now, which is a very difficult one to remove. Most "all-purpose" anti-virus and anti-spyware programs (such as have been recommended to you) can only remove the original Trojan Zlob which caused the infection and not the infection itself.
This Smitfraud infection usually requires a specialized removal procedure and removal tools. Here are 2 links for information and free removal software.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php
Unfortunately, new variants of this pest seem to be launched every few days, so the removal information that I gave you is always playing "catch-up". If the procedure won't work for you, keep checking back to the sites I gave you. In a few days they may have updated the procedure and / or tools.
And please, never download anything unless you 1000% know and trust from where you are downloading from!
Good luck.
EDIT:
Another free removal tool for you to try. This one is call RogueFix. Tool and full infomation are here:

Gold Codec is a trojan that pretends to be a media codec. The trojan name is Zlob Trojan. It hijacks your computer and starts generating fake warning messages and critical system errors. To remove these messages and the trojan that generates them, download and scan your PC with SpyNoMore, it seems to be the most accurate program in detecting zlob infections.
http://www.spynomore.com/trojan-zlob.htm
By the way it is not free, but then again you should really question any so-called free solution. Isn't that how your computer got infected in the first place?!. The free scan will only check your system and show you the infections. If you choose to remove them, you will have to pay.

That is Definitely spyware/maleware Do NOT Download the spyware Program that it is telling you to download. Download a reputable program from an independent source
Free programshttp://find.pcworld.com/42052
http://www.lavasoft.com/
Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html
Spybot - Search & Destroy - Free Software Downloads and Software
also a tool that will run actively in the background to prevent further infections is Spyware Blaster it is free and protects both Internet Explorer and Firefox Browsers
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
SpywareBlaster
off you are going the free route I would suggest you run all three
as the programs are fair but not great.
If you want to get a retail antispyware program I personally recommend Spyware Doctor but Pest control and spysweepwe are all good products. they all cost about $30
Either way get a product and scan your system and try to rmove the problem apps if it can't remove them restart computer in safe mode and re-run the scan and removal this usually works
