My friend said that anybody who has black skin is considered black, but i said only people from african american heritage are black, the reason he saids this is because my cousin who is mexican, and one of my friends who is puerto rican are really dark. who is right me or my friend?

Well, being white this is just a guess but I always thought that a puerto rican was from Puerto Rico & a mexican from Mexico. I don't think they would be considered black but I could be wrong

Yes, only people of african american or african heritage are considered black. I'm of mexican heritage, and as far as I know, mexicans aren't black.

Mexocans are considered "brown" skinned and are consisered "Hispanic" as are Puerto Ricans. Blacks are Those born of African or JAMICAN ancestroy.

well African American are not the only black people in the world there are lots of black countries like Africa, Jamaica, Haiti, the Bahamas, etc... but color of skin should not matter anymore these days, we as a people need to overcome the color barrier and treat people by their character

ur right, no one calls indian ppl black and they usually have dark skin right, not all ppl with light skin are american, some are from england or irland etc. Just because some one is a certin color does'nt make them a certin race.

Yeap,no doubt!Dark skin can be caused by a lot of elements,not just heritage.

You are right. A lot of races have similar skin tone but they are not black.

no you are wrong what about Cape verdians they have dark skin they are not black.Besides I never look at a persons skin color anymore we are all equal
