Same way you would in real life, dont be a jerk, and occasionaly go out of your way to help some one out. Maybe theyll remember and return the favor later. Also joining a guild can be a good way to meet friends, and gain access to some of the later instances.

There's plenty of ways to make friends. Joining a guild and participating in raids are some ways.
