First of all, as those users above said, this could be an issue of under-oxygenated water. Goldfish can actually die when the water is under-oxygenated. He / she is gulping at the top of the tank? This is the most likely issue then, as right now he / she is trying to breathe. Also, this is likely a second issue too, have you " cycled " the tank? If not, google the " Fishless Tank Cycle. " I know a lot of people win those fish at the fairs, and it's just so unfair cause half the time they don't know what to do with it, and don't know the first thing about caring for it.. If you didnt "cycle" the tank, then you should go to a petstore and ask someone there for something that will enhance the growth of the good bacterias in the tank ( they should know what that is, if not, they are not proper workers and you should ask someone else ). What the "fishless tank cycle" is, is basically waiting out for "good and essential" bacterias to grow in the rocks ( and filtre if there is one ). These bacterias kill the Ammonia and Nitrate ( remember this fact, as it may come in handy if the worker is trying to remember ). Ammonia and Nitrate kill the fish. Sadly to say, I had a lot of fish die when I didn't cycle the tank. If you don't have pebbles, GET SOME ! Not gravel. Hope I helped

That's not a good sign, however, there's not enough information given to answer your question.

First check the water to make sure it's not getting toxic.

Second, we need more information troubleshoot what's going on. Hit the forum link at the top of the water quality article, post in sick fish and we'll try and help.

okay, i have had many of my goldfish die from this and i don't think you can cure it. It happens in their swim blatters, and they become filed with air and are unable to swim anymore. It hurt to watch my fish when one got this because it always dies a few days after. I am going to say sorry in advance, because i am very sure they are going to die.=(

I doubt you'll be able to save him. By now he should have died or you should euthanize him. Put him in a bowl with water and some rubbing alcohol or vodka. He will go off to sleep and then you can flush.

He is dying.

Does it have plenty of oxygen with an air pump? Did you kill the chlorine in the water?

If all that is ok, there is NOTHING you can do. Buy another one.

Good luck. Pops

sounds like it COULD be dead..or IS dying. make sure theres oxygen in the water; change the water possibly and put food near it...push it farther into the water to see what happens....otherwise it might be paralyzed or something. =\ sorry

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you are soon to be without a pet. Prayer?

If your fish cannot swim, there is nothing you can do for him... If he's just stuck, get him unstuck quickly!
