Anything controversial: Prayer in public schools, the war in Iraq, the causes (and expected results of) global warming, dress codes in schools, the benefits of public transportation, how much you are supposed to tip in a restaurant, whether or not Christmas is too commercial, whether or not pit bulls should be outlawed because the are "dangerous" dogs, whether the morning after pill should be sold over the counter, etc.

Look at the newspaper for topics that appeal to you and to your audience. Then state your topic in a way that "takes a stand". For example, "School uniforms reduce the incidence of violence in high schools.", or "The US should set a timetable for pulling out of Iraq." or "We should not use fetal stem cells for research."
Then look for evidence that supports and refutes your topic, and then draw your conclusion. Did the evidence confirm or refute your topic?
And presto! You have your essay.

politics or religion.....always brings up a good arguement.....just dont do both, youll have a war....................
